About

The Weldon Regional Water District is a newly established district, having officially formed following a multi-year process.

Beginning in 2017, a majority of landowners in the four community drinking water systems signed a petition to initiate its formation. The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) presented a resolution of application to the Kern County Board of Supervisors on April 29, 2020 (Resolution No. 20-08, Proceeding No. 1770), followed by a protest hearing report on May 27, 2020 (Resolution No. 20-15, Proceeding No. 1770). A waiver was granted by LAFCO and Kern County Counsel for Prop 218 procedures to be completed after entity formation.

The Weldon Regional Water District Special Election took place on April 29, 2022, with 5,573,822 votes in favor and 5,228,059 against. Since then, the district has been actively establishing its governance, holding regular board meetings for the past year.

As a newly formed entity, the district has experienced frequent board turnover as it works to build a stable foundation and address the needs of the community.
